Carcraft

Location:
Leeds
Client:
Sterling Capitol
Size:
115,000ft²
Completion Date:
2006

As part of the overall 40-acre masterplan for Capitol Park, GNA were commissioned to design a high quality retail unit for Carcraft, one of the leading national car supermarkets.

The new building was to be set within dense perimeter landscaping and as part of the planning conditions, had to compliment the recently completed office buildings in both form and materials.

The roofscape defines the form of the building and comprises two simple planes of metal standing seam sheeting terminating above a roof lit spine running down the centre of the building.

The elevations incorporate large areas of glazed curtain walling to the principal sales areas, with external brise soleil, enhancing the effect of lightness and transparency and reducing the overall volume of the building.  The remaining elevations are finished in a silver flat panel cladding system and facing bricks and mortar.
