Garnett Netherwood were appointed by API Ltd to refurbish the former Woolworth department store on Piccadilly Gardens in the centre of Manchester.
The conversion consists of a new 157 bedroom Travelodge hotel in the upper levels of the building, with three retail units on the ground floor and basement level. The proposal includes the insertion of central lightwells for the bedrooms, the remodelling of the existing roof to provide an additional floor of bedrooms within a new zinc mansard roof and the substantial alteration of the rear elevation to Back Piccadilly. The external envelope of the building was fully refurbished with new windows, shopfronts and a full cleaning of the existing Portland stone façades.
