No 2 Wellington Place

Garnett Netherwood were appointed by Hermes Real Estate to design a speculative seven storey office building at Wellington Place in Leeds City centre.  Number Two is the practice’s third commission for Hermes Real Estate at Wellington Place.  The shape and form of the building responds to the curved road layout on the northern site boundary and the future public spaces to the south. A basement has also been incorporated into the design, providing 71 secure car parking spaces and shower/changing facilities for cyclists/runners

The main entrance to Number Two is a fully glazed double height space that extends out into the covered plaza acting as a focus from Wellington Street.  Above the entrance area the building elevations are of a high performance curtain walling system, terminating in large panels of cast stone. As the building extends around the curve of the road, the elevations take on a regular rhythm of window openings with cast stone at the lower and upper storeys with a locally sourced red brick in between.  The differing window proportions between storeys reflect the buildings city centre context.
